Present:  Lenora Williams-Omenka, Mark Delventhal, Bill Riley, Jeff Trowbridge, Pam Miller, Sid Miller, Regina Guillory (Zoom),  Joseph Camara Jr., Saralinda Jackson, Michael Jackson,  Kevin Jenkins (visitor) and keith Uriarte ( District 5170 Area 1 Membership Coordinator)

 

TOPIC: Call to Order and Welcome

Discussion: Lenora Williams-Omenka opened meeting at 12:21 pm

Action/Outcomes: 

• Called the meeting to order and welcomed Zoom guests and our visitor Kevin Jenkins - Welcome Kevin Jenkins. 

• Welcome back to Saralinda Jackson and Michael Jackson.  

• A special welcome to our Rotarian guest speaker Keith Uriarte.

Action/Outcomes: Pledge led by Bill Riley 

 

TOPIC: Word of Inspiration or uplift to begin our meeting

Action/Outcomes: Bill Riley gave us words of wisdom 

 

TOPIC: Speaker

Discussion: Our  District 5170 Area 1 Membership Coordinator

Action/Outcomes: 

• Keith Uriarte gave us an overview of the Rotary Membership approach and why. He talked about membership. How the ask and in person meetings are better.  He reminded us to look at why we were chartered specifically as the Piedmont-Montclair Rotary Club.  Mark Deventhal was able to give us some background and history on how we began as a club 60 plus years ago.  After Mark’s overview, he asked us to build our club and our community around our geographics and based on our history.  He reminded us of the community businesses that should be approached in our area, with the message that all we have to do is ASK. He also reviewed the necessity for us to bring in the mosaic Oakland community with varying ages and viewpoints.  Lastly he kept coming back to the Rotary 4 way test while seeking members with the thought that all people of varying cultures and ages must hold to those principles when we discuss membership.

 

• 4 way test:

It asks the following four questions: "Of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
