Discussion: Our District 5170 Area 1 Membership Coordinator
Action/Outcomes:
-
Keith Uriarte gave us an overview of the Rotary Membership approach and why. He talked about membership. How the ask and in person meetings are better. He reminded us to look at why we were chartered specifically as the Piedmont-Montclair Rotary Club. Mark Deventhal was able to give us some background and history on how we began as a club 60 plus years ago. After Mark’s overview, he asked us to build our club and our community around our geographics and based on our history. He reminded us of the community businesses that should be approached in our area, with the message that all we have to do is ASK. He also reviewed the necessity for us to bring in the mosaic Oakland community with varying ages and viewpoints. Lastly he kept coming back to the Rotary 4 way test while seeking members with the thought that all people of varying cultures and ages must hold to those principles when we discuss membership.
-
4 way test:
It asks the following four questions: "Of the things we think, say or do:
-
Is it the TRUTH?
-
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
-
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
-
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
-
There will be a membership on August 12, 2021 from 9 am - 12 pm. He reminded us that the best way to increase our membership is to just ask. Here is the link for the training information https://events.rotarydistrict5170.org/rotary-district-5170-events/membership-workshop-2021
